Dear Wealthy Land Owner

I am referring to those of you that own grocery stores, hotels, multi family housing developments, shopping malls, casinos, light and heavy industrial complexes of all kinds. Many of you have trees that are damaged by incorrect pruning. Stop doing this.

Young trees that are incorrectly managed are robbed of their potential. They look bad and provide less benefit.  They cause problems and cost more to maintain. Above all else, they suffer and die much sooner.

Look at it this way... because this is true. 

Young trees are like children. When children are harmed the damage stays with them for the rest of their life.  And their life will be less joyful.

you aren't solving any problems by doing this

So why do you do it?

I have asked some of you.

You say you need to prevent the trees from getting too big. You say it is cheaper to do it this way. You say it is quicker and more efficient. Some of you claim to believe that this was what you were supposed to do.

It is not.

So what's the big deal?

No big deal I guess, if you were the only one doing it.

The big deal is the scale of the problem. Each of you are destroying many. This is happening in every town and city across the country. You are each responsible for tens, or perhaps hundreds. Added together we are talking about millions of trees that now look bad, cause more problems, provide less benefit and die much sooner than they should. 

Abuse of young trees has an enormous negative effect on the environments of cities and towns.

This is such a waste.

It needs to stop.

Keep in mind...

• Trees grow.
• You probably can't stop them from growing.
• A tree must be allowed to grow as large as it must grow.

If you have a problem with this then you should talk to an arborist. They will offer some solutions.

Tell your friends to stop damaging young trees.
